INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION

Our association "Ce.S.A." Support Adoption Center, founded in Florence by Anna Genni Miliotti, with Donatella Beani (psychologist) and Marisa Cavalieri, is developing a correct understanding about adoption in Italy. We have monthy meeting with adoptive parents, training course for adoption for parents, professionals and adoptees. We organize meetings and stages with professionals from Italy, US, France and other European countries, to develop a better knowledge of adoption triad members' issues.

International Adoption in Italy
In Italy every year about 3.000 children have been adopted: 1.000 in domestic adoption, and 2.000 in international adoption. In these past 10 years 25.000 children have been adopted internationally, and Italy is today the second country, after USA, for the amount of international adoptions. Adoptions are mostly international, because children who have been declared "abandoned" in Italy are only about 1.000 a year, and more than 10.000 are the prospective adoptive parents. It depends on a legislation that is supporting maternity, and family, and privilege biological links. It is declared in Italian Constitution, that the family "is the basis of society". We prevent children abandonment supporting women in their maternity, providing many facilities.

In Italy no singles, no divorced persons, nor unwedded couples can adopt. Only married people can, after living together for three years.

The countries where adopted children come from are mostly: 1 -Russia, 2- Ukraine, 3- Romania, 4- Bulgaria, 5- Brazil, 6- India, and others.
